Showing The Way

Many people ask the question "how do I teach my kids to do right and to stop doing wrong?" There are tons of sites that you can get the answer to this question from and they can be helpful, but sometimes and it can be hard to know how to apply them to our lives and families. I am going to give you the clearest answer through an example:
There is only one sun in the morning, and at night there is only one moon...sure there are tons of stars hanging around the moon but without the moon and without the sun we wouldn't be able to see. Our lives as parents represent this. As parents we are like the sun and the moon, giving light to our children to guide them and show them the right way. If our light is out and we aren't acting the way we should or the way we want them to, then their going to have a hard time acting the right way. Other people are like stars to our children. They may have some friends or relatives that can show them some light but ours was meant to be the brightest in their lives. When a teenage girl is depending more on her friend to show her how to truly love more than her own parents do is a very sad thing and happens often. It's worse when the parents are clueless and have no idea why their child is being the way she is. Of course it can happen with boys too. People have the wrong ideas of what a parent actually does. They get too much into the authority side and start feeling high about themselves. Our children can have quite a challenge in life when we start putting ourselves on a pedestal because in all honesty, we are all equal and a part of God's family. We are to love them and help them see what is right...while also teaching them that it's okay if we make mistakes because no one is perfect. No body wants a parent who cant accept a few mistakes...you were once a kid too. Teach your kids the right way and always turn to God for advice and guidance.
